asthma-picDid you know that asthma is one of the most common chronic disorders of childhood, affecting over 6 million children under the age of 18? In fact, it’s one of the leading causes of missed school days for kids as well.

At Advanced Allergy Solutions®, we treat allergies as well as asthma symptoms. Childhood asthma is something we see often, so we want to empower you with more information of how you may relieve symptoms naturally and effectively.

What is asthma?

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory condition and characterized by excessive sensitivity to the lungs to various stimuli.

Asthma can be triggered by

  • Allergic reactions (to things like pollen, mold, animal fur, feather dust, food, cockroaches)
  • Air pollutants
  • Cigarette smoke
  • Respiratory infections and colds
  • Sudden change in temperature
  • Stress or excitement
  • Exercise

Not sure if your child has asthma?

Here are some of the common symptoms to look for:

  • Chest pain, tightness or congestion
  • Hearing a wheezing sound when exhaling
  • Shortness of breath
  • Frequent coughing (usually gets worse with a cold or flu)

If your child suffers from asthma, there are natural and holistic ways you can treat the symptoms. Here are our top recommendations!

1. Vitamin DStudies have shown a correlation between lower vitamin D levels and increased risk of contracting an Upper Respiratory Infection. Vitamin D also aids in boosting your immune system, and a strong immune system is very important for treating asthma. We recommend taking Fermented Cod Liver Oil, which is naturally rich in vitamin D.

2. Magnesium. When allergies trigger asthma symptoms, they are usually made worse by magnesium deficiency. Research has shown that patients with asthma are low on magnesium and supplementation has improved symptoms. Magnesium helps relax the bronchial tubes and sooth muscles of the esophagus. We recommend a dermal application for kids because it is easy and effective.

3. Eat fat-soluble vitamins, especially A, D, K. You can find these vitamins naturally in animal-based sources, like eggs, oysters, fermented cod liver oil (which has a perfect combination of Vitamins A and K), pastured butter and high vitamin butter oil.

4. Come in for a treatment at Advanced Allergy Solutions®. Allergic reactions may trigger asthma attacks. Some common allergens that can cause asthma are air pollution, tobacco smoke, pet dander, dust mites, pollen, perfume, mold and cleaning products. Because food allergies can trigger asthma as well, it’s best to eat natural, unprocessed foods.

We hope these suggestions give you and your family relief from any asthma symptoms you may be experiencing. If you have any questions or would like more information on our treatment, you may email us at info(at)aasclinics.com.
